How to Approach the PE Exam

But i’m just starting to look into getting my Professional Engineer license and the exam seems daunting. Does anyone have tips or resources they found helpful when preparing? I’m especially curious about how long people typically study and if there are any specific study materials that are must-haves.

Studying for the PE Exam feels a bit like training for a marathon — it’s all about building up endurance over time. I’d recommend setting a regular schedule, maybe $30–50 worth of practice exams from NCEES could be a solid investment. How many hours a week are you planning to dedicate to it?

It’s definitely a challenge, but think of it as a puzzle rather than a marathon — break it down into pieces; a study schedule is key; I found that about 3 to 4 months of consistent study works well for many. Also, @francis_king42 mentioned some great resources — have you checked any of those out yet?

One thing that really helped me was working through practice problems in the NCEES practice exam book; it gives you a feel for the actual test format. I studied for a solid 4 months, but I started really honing in on my weak areas in the last month. Have you looked into any study guides yet?
