The challenges of geotechnical fieldwork

I’ve been reflecting on the complexities we face during soil analysis in various environments. Last month, I dealt with unexpected groundwater issues while trying to assess a new foundation site, which really threw off my initial calculations. I’m curious to hear if anyone else has encountered similar surprises and how you adapted your foundation designs accordingly.

I totally get that! I faced a similar issue with unexpected water tables last year, and we ended up using waterproofing membranes to adjust our foundation design. It made a huge difference in the long run.

Unexpected groundwater can really throw a wrench in the works; i faced something similar last fall and switched to helical piles to combat the issue. It saved us time and kept the project on budget, but I’d recommend always being prepared with contingency designs just in case.
